Christmas retail story "O" the day.
i work at a place that sends out a lot of coupons.
coupons with the rules and restrictions printed plain as day on them.
but people like to misinterpret and misuse them in their own evil way.
here's an example of one of those times:
a lady was purchasing 4 items from me at my register.
she actually followed the rule of one coupon per visit.
(it's amazing how many people print out multiple coupons that say one per visit, and yet the argument is, "but i printed three coupons!!")
i rang her up and keyed in the coupon.
she asked me in a very snotty voice, "which item did the 30% come off of?"
i looked at the screen and said, "actually, all of them."
she had picked up items that were already on sale. so the coupon did not apply.
she sighs and pays the money. i thought she would be happy that all the things she was purchasing were on sale. but not so much.
she looks at the receipt and says even an more snottier voice, "now which one did the coupon come off of?"
i said, "well, none of them. they were already on sale."
and she's looking at the coupon and she swears that it doesn't say anywhere on it that you can't use it with other offers. so by that right, i HAVE TO give her 60% off on one item."
i came very close to rolling my eyes at her and asking in what retail world does that make any sense? but composed myself and politely showed her the red bold print that states: 30% OFF THE LIST PRICE OF ANY ONE ITEM.
then i explained that list price also means retail, or regular price as if explaining it to a child.
she then takes her purchase and her receipt and throws the coupon at me proclaiming, "well! they shouldn't even send these out to me then!!" and storms off.
and you know what? she's absolutely right.
we don't have to send people coupons and promotions. what right do we have to give you a chance to take a percentage off paying full price.
the nerve of some people!!!!
what kind of a world do we live in in which we offer opportunities to save money on certain advertised items.
things are getting way out of line here!
WAY OUT OF LINE!!!
after my obviously sarcastic thoughts about this matter i just smiled and shrugged and said out loud, "i'll take the next customer please."
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on.
