daughter: daddy, i'm going to be very careful to keep this shirt clean so i can wear it today and tomorrow.
-she holds up a pink shirt with glittery bugs on it-
daddy: what? no.
daughter: but, ...!
daddy: no. we wear clean clothes around here girlie. you pick either today or tomorrow to wear that shirt. not both. we are actually lucky enough to have enough clothes around for you to do that.

daughter: but didn't you hear me say I WOULD KEEP IT CLEAN?
-not really yelling, but a raised whiny voice-
daddy: i said no. pick a day.
-at this point she huffs and slams and sweeps the clean shirt on the dirty floor. walks away with head held low. charlie brown sad music playing-
