as promised, i took some pics of the room in my house which is lovingly called "The Star Wars Room."
few married guys in the world have wives who are cool enough to let them have a room in the house dedicated to what they collect and love to display. most guys just get a garage. i got a slight step up from that. i got the room that used to be half the garage. if we were handy people who did projects it would probably be the whole garage made into an extra room. but we have enough trouble keeping the house clean or the pipes from freezing and bursting in the winter. my strength is in breaking things. it's a sucky talent to have sometimes. but i digress.
well, here's some more proof on just how nerdy and lucky i am to be married.
first off here we have a pretty darn cool Darth Vader from japan. the blue carded figure on the wall behind him is the figure i have spent the most money on. it cost me 75 dollars American. at the time i had the money, so i had to have the figure. it's a Jorg Sucal toy. so... George spelled differently and Lucas spelled backwards. so it's basically George Lucas as a rebel pilot action figure. the only way to get it at the time was to have gone to the Star Wars celebration in indianapolis. and that would have cost me more than 75 bucks. plus, i don't think i would want to go to a Star Wars convention. body odor makes me have violent thoughts. and nerds/geeks/freaks/fanboys tend to avoid bathing regularly and deodorant that contains an anti-perspirent as well. take frequent showers, people!!!
so i feel i got a good deal by avoiding all that and plopping down the 75$ at an overpriced vendor.
then there's the Boba Fett and Greedo head statues. they were pretty pricey at one time. but not when i bought them. in fact, most of my stuff is at cheap-o prices from ebay, comic-con or bought from a guy named rudy who was selling toys out of his garage. when most people see my collection of things they know that i'm borderline broke and think i have no right to spend money on toys and junk like this.
truth: i purchased most of this stuff before i had a house, kids and a lawn that needed to be mowed.
and then there's this: i didn't have much of this stuff before i got married either.
that's right.
before i got hitched i had maybe a few old toys on a shelf, some books in boxes, and lots and lots of music CDs.
so that means that i didn't totally nerd out til after the vows were spoken. that's when i bought most of this plastic crack. i haven't bought anything new all that much lately. these days i mainly spend any extra cash i get on computer stuff and books.
like these...
and these.
and these.
actually, there's like 8 more shelves like this. but you get the picture.
now you may think that it's really really nerdy to have a poster of the map of the Star Wars galaxy on their wall... and you would be absolutely right.
but reading all the books about the subject that i have, it is really a cool thing to have.
ahem. moving on.
mini- busts: pretty darn cool little statues that are highly addictive.
most of them are gifts from wifey. i try to get the bounty hunters at least.
i finished off my Ultimate X-Men bust collection thanks to jim. he's still selling them for real cheap if anyone is interested. wink, wink.
my tribute to Colossus, Spider-Man and his symbiotes. also for some strange reason... Galactus. the Tick was up there too, but he decided to take a nose dive at 3 a.m. one day and i'm afraid to put him back. so there.
the X-Men sign was stolen from a wal-mart display from my college days.
orange carded figures. some are signed. Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Darth Vader. i still owe Darth Vader 3 dollars. and yes, there was someone inside Artoo, and i shook his lil hand.
these orange carded ones are special cuz they are from Ireland. dan got em for me for tying him and his wife together with a little blanket. score for Spacey!
"and just how many copies of Star Wars do you need anyway?"
i get that question alot.
this is just the DVD's.
aaaaand here's the VHS as well.
they are all different in their own way. i didn't keep buying the movie every time i saw it.
it's not like i have 100 copies of Catcher in the Rye stored away in my closet or anything.
plus what everybody likes to play with when they enter the Star Wars room. the lightsaber replicas.
one lights up and makes sounds.
one is just a piece of metal.
one is a TV remote control.
the random figure shelf. notice the McKenzie Brothers from Strange Brew, eh?
i'm pretty sure the beast did that on purpose.
the second shelf down is the bounty hunter shelf. you might notice most of them are no longer standing. that is because that shelf is connected to a wall that is connected to a door that gets slammed and awful lot.
the 12" bounty hunter figures. i started to collect these, but that stopped faster than collecting Legos. too expensive and not worth it.
on another note: it's sad how well the camera picked up the spider webs in the pictures.
there's a long and sordid story behind how i acquired this toy. ..and i'm not gonna tell it. so nyeh.
STAR WARS....
UNLEASHED!!!
as you can see, i'm not a very big fan of negative space.
Darth Vader:
-dark lord of the sith.
-employee of the month.
-president of the Wonder Woman fan club.
and the finale.
grrr. arrgh.
